This project is consisted of designed sketches, a series illustrations, and a short comic story.
It aims to depict a fictional world in detail, where Winged creatures called Harpies in greek myths are not only recorded in literatures and artworks, but exist in the physical world ever since, while they usually live in their kingdom floating on the cloud so they are hardly observed by human being.
My original idea of creating a world like this is from a conclusion of my research paper Birds in Greek Mythology:
Ancient greeks created mythical stories for natural phenomenons and characteristics of animals in order to giving them explanations and rationalized their existence. They highly connected their everyday life into a part of the long mythical story. It seemed that the world they lived in is in some degree a fantasy world.
So how would the world develop if this was true? and if mythical creatures were exist, with the technological development and modernization, civilians do not need to worship or fear those creatures' force of nature anymore, how would the publics treat them?
I would like to explore this hypothesis through my drawing.
I will use multiple methods to design and display this world, which is inspired by After Man—A Zoology of the Future by Douglas Dixon, and Codex Seraphinianus by Lugi Serafini.
